Welcome, Allies! We extend a heartfelt thank you for the incredible support you've shown to the trans and non-binary community. Your dedication means everything to us! Whether you're just starting your journey as an ally or bring years of experience, this page is specially crafted with you in mind.

It’s time to make a positive impact and show your support for the trans and non-binary community. As allies, it’s important that we step up and create a world that celebrates diversity and inclusivity. Here are some simple ways to be the best ally.

Start by educating yourself about trans and non-binary identities, experiences, and the unique challenges faced by the trans and no-binary community. There are lots of resources out there, from articles and books, to podcasts and documentaries. Engage with trans and non-binary voices, listen to their stories, and open your mind to their experiences. Remember, learning about their journey fosters empathy and understanding. Start sharing what you’ve learnt with those who need it! Join our Trans in the City Allies group on Linked In to keep up to date with allyship educational events taking place in 2023!

Respect is key! Show your respect for trans and non-binary individuals by using their chosen name and correct pronouns. Don't assume anything based on appearances. If you're unsure, politely ask and use the pronouns they share with you. It's a small but mighty way to affirm their identity and make them feel seen and respected. You can bring pronouns into your everyday life, in every new conversation; ‘Hi, my name is Victoria and my pronouns are she/her’. This soon catches on in the workplace, and promotes inclusion naturally.

One of the best ways to be a supportive ally is by listening. Create a safe space for trans and non-binary individuals to share their experiences, thoughts, and feelings. Listen actively and without judgment. Engage in meaningful conversations, ask questions respectfully, and learn from their unique perspectives. Remember, we all have stories to share, and listening is a superpower in allyship.  Not everybody will want to share their personal stories, so please be mindful when asking questions of new contacts.

When you come across transphobic comments, jokes, or behaviours, don't stay silent. Be an everyday superhero by speaking up and challenging transphobia! Educate others about the harmful effects of such behaviour and share your knowledge. Sometimes, all it takes is a friendly conversation to change someone's perspective and promote inclusivity. Never put yourself in danger though, always take your personal safety into account.

Social media can be a powerful tool for allyship. Use your platforms to amplify trans and non-binary voices, achievements, and stories. Share articles, videos, or artwork created by trans and non-binary individuals. Follow and promote trans and non-binary activists, content creators, and organisations dedicated to trans rights. Together, we can create a ripple effect of understanding and appreciation.

Support Trans-Inclusive Policies and Initiatives. Stay informed about policies and legislation affecting the trans and non-binary community. Support organisations and initiatives working towards trans equality. Attend marches, sign petitions, and get involved in advocacy efforts. Together, we can make a difference and create a world where trans individuals are valued and protected.

Lastly, let's spread love, acceptance, and positivity. Celebrate the diversity within the trans and non-binary community and challenge the stereotypes that hold us back. Be an ally not just in words but in actions, by showing kindness, respect, and support to everyone, regardless of their gender identity.

By taking these simple steps, we can create a better and more inclusive world for the trans and non-binary community. Remember, allyship is an ongoing journey, so let's keep learning, growing, and advocating together.

Thank you for being the amazing allies we need!
