Trans in the City Launches New Guidance to Support Trans and Non-Binary People in the Workplace
Developed in partnership with INvolve, Robin White KC, and leading employment law experts.
Trans in the City is proud to announce the release of its latest guidance, created to provide organisations with clear, accurate and pragmatic methods for supporting trans and non-binary employees, colleagues and customers.
Developed in collaboration with INvolve, Robin White KC, and a number of leading employment law professionals who generously provided their expertise pro bono, this new guidance sets out what Trans in the City believes to be the most inclusive, practical and legally robust approach to supporting all staff - including those who are trans and non-binary, as well as individuals who may not wish to share facilities for reasons of belief, viewpoint or personal comfort.
The guidance aims to offer a balanced, respectful and legally sound framework that minimises the risk of litigation or breaches of data protection law, while ensuring fairness, dignity and inclusion for everyone.
Bobbi Pickard, CEO of Trans in the City, said:
“This guidance represents months of careful collaboration and listening. We wanted to create something that not only supports trans and non-binary people in workplaces, but also provides clarity and reassurance for employers and colleagues alike. Our goal is to promote understanding and inclusion, while ensuring compliance and best practice. We’re incredibly grateful to INvolve, Robin White KC and the many professionals who contributed their time and expertise to this important work.”
Suki Sandhu OBE, Founder & CEO, INvolve says, “At a time when trans rights are under attack, the way forward for organisations remains obscure and contradictory. We are therefore proud to collaborate on this guidance which provides much-needed clarity for organisations to ensure they remain compliant with the law and fair to all employees; including those who are trans and non-binary. A huge thank you to Trans in the City for spearheading the creation of this important document.”
The guidance is now available for download by the pubic, please see below.
To accompany the launch, Trans in the City has developed a new training programme:
“Trans and Toilets: Flushing Out the Truth” - a dedicated session designed to help organisations understand and apply the new guidance in practice. The first session will take place on 14th November from 11:30–12:30, and will be free for all employees of Trans in the City sponsors. If you would like more information on joining us as a sponsor, please head here.
